〜　畳　〜 奈良時代には藁を編んでムシロにした物を幾枚か重ね縁を着け綴じした物が存在したと言う文献が残されている。 その後、畳に厚みが加えられ調度品として「置き畳」が用いられ、身分差を表すために、畳の厚み、大きさ、縁の色柄を 定めたとされている。 後に、茶室の建設や部屋の分割などに伴い、畳の敷き詰めが定着する。 一般には、布団の普及により畳の敷き詰めが広まったとされている。 最近では、変色せず、ダニ、カビを防ぐ最新の畳表や、洋室にも似合うカラー畳、現代的なデザインが施された 美しい紋様の畳縁など、畳も多様化されている。 〜Tatami〜 Tatami(knitted straw,rush or reed)was first made in the Nara era in the 12th century. Tatami mats were luxury goods used by Emperors Nobles religious leaders and high ranking officials. It is said that tatami came in a variety of thickness and size with the color of the fabric used on the edges showing the rank of the individual house that owned it. There are three different parts to an authentic tatami mat the reed or rush cover"TATAMI OMOTE" the straw core or filling "TATAMI DOKO"and the decorative cloth edging "TATAMI BERI" Today we find such a diversity of design and colored edging.
